In July of 1993, Jim said “Good morning, Southern California,” as the morning host on The Fish's sister station, 99.5 KKLA in Los Angeles. He’s been waking up faithful morning listeners ever since!
For Jim, the radio bug bit while he was in high school at Don Bosco Tech in Rosemead. He studied drafting and architecture, but chose the radio biz over engineering. He honed his skills at Fullerton College and worked at the campus station, KBPK, from 1986 thru 1988. Jim landed his first gig at Long Beach-based KGER, moving on to KYMS Orange County shortly thereafter. He worked afternoon drive and middays along with assignments of Music Director and Production Manager in his 4+ years at KYMS.
As the long-time morning host on KKLA, Jim has teamed with World Vision to help find sponsors for needy children around the world. During his daily 'Child of the Day' segments, he’s seen thousands of boys and girls find sponsors.. thanks to the generous hearts of KKLA listeners.
Jim is among many in L.A. radio who count the late Mark Denis as an inspiration and mentor. He’s been featured in Don Barrett’s terrific radio memoir, “L.A. Radio People,” and was inducted to the KBPK Wall of Fame at his Alma Mater, Fullerton College.
Jim’s many years at KKLA and KFSH have afforded him the opportunity to travel with ministries like The Bible League and Food for the Poor to all parts of the globe, including China, Indonesia, India, Nigeria, Romania, Ukraine, Jamaica and the Dominican Republic.
Connecting with the audience is of prime importance to Jim. In a Glendale News-Press profile, he said: 'It's a responsibility none of us here takes lightly. Some days I just pray that the words come out right.'
Jim lives in Claremont with his wife, Mindy, and his sons James (13), Andrew (6) and daughter Hannah (4) and baby Aaron(born April '06).
